Honoring the Foundation, Inspiring the Next Generation

The Apostolic Original Holy Church of God, Inc. (AOH) was built on faith, sacrifice, and an enduring commitment to community. The journey began in Columbus, Ohio, in 1966 under the leadership of our founder, Bishop Henry R. Mackey. With a vision to establish a lasting spiritual home, Bishop Mackey kickstarted the very first AOH Building Fund using $300 of his personal savings. That humble seed became the foundation for decades of growth, prayer, and hands-on labor in service to the ministry our mission to uplift the community.

Today, that mantle of leadership and service continues through the next generation, led by Bishop Lawrence H. Mackey alongside our bishops and leadership. From an initial investment of just $300, the church organization has grown into a thriving ministry valued at well over $1,000,000. As we honor our history and celebrate our future, AOH Churches remains dedicated to moving forward step by step, grounded in the grace of God and our mission to uplift the community.

A pivotal milestone in the church's foundation took shape in January 1971 with the purchase of the Faber Avenue property in Southfield for $3,000. Alongside church brethren, Bishop Mackey personally cleared the land, leading to a groundbreaking ceremony in March of that year. By September 1972, the congregation began holding worship services in the basement while construction continued. Through persistent dedication, the church celebrated the full dedication of the building on November 2, 1973. Bishop Mackey went on to spearhead the construction of three ground-up AOH churches and supported the renovation of several others before going on to glory in 1999.
